In Zhangjiakou, Hebei, at the Tianmo·Canyon Off-road Base in Huailai, embark on an extraordinary off-road adventure with the pure-blood, hardcore off-road beast — the Ford Bronco.

Let's start by talking about this off-road base. It’s a place where you'll encounter a variety of challenging terrains, surrounded by mountains, extending deserts, rolling sand dunes, and dotted with lakes. Here, we’ll drive the Bronco over rugged mountain roads, climb sand dunes, navigate treacherous tidal flats, and brave streams and grassy plains.

The goal is simple — to test just how wild this Bronco really is.

Now, let’s talk about the vehicle. This time, we’re driving the Ford Bronco in both the Swampland Edition and the Outback Edition, all in their original factory condition with no modifications.

The Bronco's pre-sale price is between 300,000 and 450,000 RMB, with the official price to be announced at the end of the month. I suspect it might be slightly cheaper than the pre-sale price. Although the Jeep Wrangler has dropped in price, its original capabilities at over 500,000 RMB just can’t match the Bronco. The Prado starts at around 470,000 RMB in pre-sale pricing, so at 450,000 RMB, the Bronco stands as the most powerful off-roader within its factory configuration and offers the best value for money. Most versions of the Bronco come equipped with modifications that would typically be needed for more aggressive off-roading, all without requiring any additional aftermarket upgrades. Even in its factory state, it’s more than capable of handling this off-road course. For more general off-roading, it's an absolute breeze. Plus, Ford offers a variety of custom modification options at the time of purchase, available at Ford’s authorized dealerships. These modifications are designed and produced in collaboration between JMC Ford and various suppliers, ensuring top-notch quality, authenticity, and competitive prices. The Bronco even comes with pre-installed modification interfaces and wiring harnesses, so all you need to do is install the original parts. The car’s interior switches are fully controllable, making it clear that JMC Ford has truly mastered the off-road "game."

Now, let’s get to the main event—let’s go wild.

The rough roads are no match.

Honestly, looking at these roads can be quite intimidating — they're wild! But when you're behind the wheel of the Bronco, it feels surprisingly effortless.

On mountain trails where the road conditions are unseen, all I need to do is grip the steering wheel. With the MOD smart pre-load 4WD system and off-road crawl mode in place, I simply follow the coach’s instructions, and at low speeds, the Bronco effortlessly takes me through.

The Ford Bronco Outback and Swampland Special Edition, in its original factory state, boasts an approach angle of 45°, departure angle of 37°, and breakover angle of 26°. With a ground clearance of up to 273mm and a wheelbase of 1700mm, it’s built to conquer any terrain. Engage the three locking differentials, disconnect the sway bars, and climbing over rocks is so easy. No matter how challenging the off-road landscape, it’s never a match for the Bronco.

In the G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Terrain) intelligent terrain management system’s rock-crawling mode, and with the 4WD system set to either "4H" or "4L" mode, the front sway bar automatically disconnects at speeds below 32 km/h. This increases the suspension's wheel travel, allowing the tires to maintain maximum contact with the ground, thereby improving the vehicle’s ability to pass through obstacles. This function is especially crucial when facing challenges like bomb craters and axle twisters. It compensates for the limitations of the differential lock, ensuring both wheels stay grounded and enhancing tire traction, which significantly boosts the Bronco's off-road recovery capabilities.

When it comes to tackling sand dunes, the Bronco's power, BAJA mode, and oversized tires worked together to give me a taste of desert surfing. The Bronco is the industry's first factory model to offer an oversized tire kit. The factory-standard 35-inch Goodyear mud tires significantly increase the contact area with the sand, boosting traction and allowing the vehicle to glide over the soft sand like it’s solid ground.

In BAJA mode, the throttle response and power output become much more aggressive, ensuring that power is instantly available when you need it. The 4WD system switches to high-speed 4WD mode, with reduced intervention from the traction control and stability control systems, allowing for greater freedom in driving. The suspension system is optimized to provide better handling stability and off-road capability. At this point, whether you're speeding across sandy terrain or launching over dunes, the Bronco lets you fully enjoy the thrill of extreme off-roading and experience the purest off-road passion.

Easy to Disassemble

I never expected to find joy in disassembling a vehicle, but the Bronco made it happen.

The Bronco features over 20 removable modules, allowing you to take off the doors and roof, embracing the open-air, convertible driving experience.

By removing the components on both sides of the front bumper, you can increase the approach angle, enhancing the vehicle's extreme climbing ability. The front bumper also has pre-drilled screw holes, making it easier for owners to add off-road modifications like bull bars, front bumper lights, winch mounts, and more.

If you opt for the available washable rubber floor mats for both the front and rear, the floors are made from PVC material and feature four active drainage holes. After an off-road adventure, you can simply rinse the mats with a water gun to clean them — no hassle.

The off-road button cluster on the central console features a rubberized, fully wrapped design, making it not only durable but also waterproof. This thoughtful design ensures that the controls are protected from water and mud, ready for any off-road challenge.

The Swampland Special Edition Ford Bronco is equipped with a high-mounted water fording snorkel, raising its water fording depth to 925mm. This significantly enhances the vehicle's off-road capability, allowing it to tackle deeper water crossings with ease.

The intelligent driver assistance system in the Bronco is top-notch.
